William “Russell” Long, Jr., 84, of Decatur, IL passed away at 3:52 p.m. on Thursday (July 1, 2010) at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (July 6, 2010) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday (July 5, 2010). Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Riverside Baptist Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family via e-mail at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Mr. Long was born on January 18, 1926 in Decatur, IL, the son of W.R. and Ruth C. (Fombelle) Long. He was a farmer for over seventy years. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and the Farm Bureau. Russell married Annabel Heckel on December 19, 1948. She preceded him in death on May 28, 2003.

Surviving are his son: William Russell “Bill” Long III and his wife Sheila of Decatur, IL; daughter: Sharon Haines and her husband Ron of Decatur, IL; sister: Mildred Evans and her husband Raymond of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Scott Haines of Rural Lovington, IL, Cynthia Haines of Phoenix, AZ, Alex Long of Decatur, IL and Austin Long of Decatur, IL; special long-time friends: Vale Newman and Ray Redding; beloved cats: Rachel, Ashy, Fanny and Biter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter: Karen Ann Long and sister: Helen Corman.
